The Jets have released cornerback Lito Sheppard. The announcement was made by Jets spokesman Adam Schefter. Sheppard was a due a $10 million bonus, and it was no secret that he was never going to get this money, even if he had a good year in 2009.

The anouncement was made by Eric Allen of newyorkjets.com – “[Mike Tannenbaum} also intends on placing tenders on both the versatile Brad Smith and S Eric Smith. The Jets have 11 restricted free agents, and by placing a tender on an RFA, the Jets protect themselves from losing that player in a couple of ways,” wrote Allen.
