The Jets have released cornerback Lito Sheppard. The announcement was made by Jets spokesman Adam Schefter. Sheppard was a due a $10 million bonus, and it was no secret that he was never going to get this money, even if he had a good year in 2009.

Alvin Keels tweets on Leon Washington – “The Jets have decided to place the 2nd rounder tender on Leon Washington. He is ahead of schedule while rehabbing from his Week 7 injury. He will be 100% healthy and ready for camp either in NY or elsewhere. I expect there to be a market for Leon during free agency and would say his return to the Jets will be 50/50 at best at this point.”

He likes going head to head on an island with the best receivers in the country. His anticipation is good. He’s a gambler though and gave up some big plays. The Jets can’t make up their minds on Thomas Jones according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter – “Jones has a $2 million option bonus payment that the Jets must decide to pick up by early next month. My understanding is they’ve gone back and forth on it — one day they believe they should pick it up, and the next day they wonder whether it’s the right thing to do.”

Jets looking for $200,000 from NYS

The Jets are looking for $200,000 from New York State to return to Cortland for training camp. The announcement was made by Senator Chuck Schumer. This money is to cover the cost of training camp.

Jets will tend Eric and Brad Smith

The Jets will tender Eric Smith and Brad Smith. The anouncement was made by Eric Allen of newyorkjets.com – “[Mike Tannenbaum} also intends on placing tenders on both the versatile Brad Smith and S Eric Smith. The Jets have 11 restricted free agents, and by placing a tender on an RFA, the Jets protect themselves from losing that player in a couple of ways,” wrote Allen.

Ellis has hand surgery

The following announcement was made by the AP’s Dennis Waszak – “Jets defensive end Shaun Ellis is recovering from surgery on his broken left hand and should be ready in time to participate in most offseason workouts. Ellis told The AP on Wednesday that the procedure, during which screws were inserted into the hand, was performed last Tuesday, two days after he played in the Pro Bowl.”

Sanchez on last spring and summer – “It seemed like a life time of emotions and obviously a dream come true. You make a decision (to come out) and things don’t go too well at the press conference. Then you perform ok for the Combine and get drafted to the Jets, fifth overall, and your whole new life starts. You are out on the east coast. We hit training camp hard and are announced the starter.”
