MOBILE, Ala. — Sporting News draft expert Russ Lande and his team of former NFL scouts were on hand for the South and North practices Tuesday and came away with a notebook full of analysis:

NORTH SQUAD

Missouri WR Danario Alexander did not show quickness or explosiveness in his routes and looked like a one-speed runner. Alexander (6-4 5/8, 221) also did not consistently catch the ball well and did not win jump-ball battles that big receivers like him must win.

Oregon RB LeGarrette Blount is a well-built kid who ran with real power through holes and showed aggressiveness by lowering his shoulder to deliver blows. He also caught the ball well with good technique away from his body with his hands. He also showed good strength and technique in pass protection drills, enabling him to consistently block linebackers well.

North Carolina DT Cam Thomas is either lazy or out of shape, or both. He plays too high and does not compete until the whistle is blown. He also does not finish plays.

SOUTH SQUAD 

Florida QB Tim Tebow’s footwork and mechanics were not as sharp Tuesday, and the hitch in his windup showed up in all the practice sessions. His delivery was slow and deliberate, though he showed good arm strength and the ability to throw tight spirals. His accuracy on short throws was OK, but he struggled on deeper balls. Though he completed them, receivers had to adjust to make tough catches.

Miami LB Darryl Sharpton has a thick frame and showed good leadership calling plays and taking charge of the huddle. He showed some short-area burst but limited range and just adequate speed. In coverage, he was tight dropping off the ball and looked stiff in space. He looked hesitant reading and reacting to plays, so his instincts have come into question.

Texas LB Roddrick Muckelroy looked slow, had trouble changing direction and showed tight hips. He also looked slow and indecisive in coverage. However, once he figured out the play, he showed a quick burst to the ballcarrier.
