Prospect Watch: RB Montario Hardesty
As the Jets journey towards the draft in April, we here at TJB will be taking a look into prospects that could be on the Jets draft board. Today we will be taking a look at: Tennessee product, Montario Hardesty [via SackDance99]
Projected Round: Second
Measurables: Stands at 5′11. Weighs in at 225 lbs.
Positives: Hardesty is a one cut runner who makes his decisions quickly. He will be patient before hitting the hole. He is a good pass catcher and has been used during screen plays or in the slot so he has a good knowledge of route running. He is very aware when it comes to pass blocking and puts in the effort. Hardesty is very powerful when he is running and will fight to get the extra yards. He has excellent size and is strong throughout his entire body. Hardesty has great vision in traffic and will be patient for the O-line to open up lanes.
Negatives: His speed isn’t there, Hardesty can be caught from behind. In pass blocking he needs to learn not to go after the pass rusher’s feet when attempting to tackle. He isn’t very elusive on the field and his lack of speed does not help the cause. He will have trouble changing direction easily.
The Bottom Line: Hardesty is one of those no nonesense, patient backs however his lack of speed really does hinder what he can do on the field. Besides Shonn Greene is pretty similar to Hardesty in many ways. I think the Jets would like a little variety.
